What is VOID?

Welcome to VOID Tabletop Roleplaying Game! This dark fantasy game is in development and will be released on Kickstarter on March 01, 2014 to receive funding to complete illustrations. VOID is a new approach in the genre of tabletop roleplaying games that explores the limitless bounds of a player’s imagination.

It is true that there are similarities in VOID when compared to other tabletop RPGs, but the differences far outweigh any connections to be made. Players will soon find that the customized use of armor and weapons, fantastic races and creatures, and the use of magic in the vast world will provide avenues for new quests that supersede simplistic concepts of heroics, honor or glory. VOID has been developed as a dark, gritty and challenging experience for gamers. Players will find in short time the greatest difficulty in VOID is not the gameplay or the understanding of mechanics, but the exertion of what their own imagination can create.

It will be found that VOID has eliminated traditional Classes that have historically restricted devoted players in other roleplaying games. This has been done away with in favor of vast expansion and exploration. Players are given the unique chance to combine Sword, Sorcery, and Sneaking in countless ways, which previous RPGs could never manage. However, you still have the option to build characters that remain aligned with your favorite archetypes and paradigms.

The setting provided for VOID is one that is based upon a realistic world that has been in creation over the past 10 years. In this world, battle and war are dark and frightening experiences, everyday life is not easy, but harsh, and some wounds never heal. To survive, a character must find his or her own motivations and unique strategy to beat the odds.

It is our hope that you join us in our adventure of a lifetime, as we transcend VOID from our own imagination to reality!

I really like the sound of this… I run a Pathfinder game and I’m sure my group would like to give this a go. Looking forward to hearing more details.

Thank you so much! We definitely appreciate your interest!! We have spent a lot of time and energy piecing this together so that it is mechanically balanced, has an entertaining world, and is overall enjoyable by players of RPGs. We have already went through several phases of test playing, but will need more test players before releasing the final game! :D

    Hi,

Thanks so much for the recent blog follow. It led me to your blog, which I am now following.

I don’t know too much about gaming, but that’s the fun of following new blogs because I can learn new things.

    Happy blogging!

Dedicated gamer of 2 decades and counting and now raising the next generation of RPG nuts… this sounds fantastic! Can’t wait to give it a go. We mostly play DnD and often take the game ‘off table’ for a few hours just so our characters and story can develop without the frustrating confines of the game – Void sounds like something that would fill that niche perfectly! :)

Sounds like we came from the same place! Definitely understand the frustration of having to bend rules and take the game “off table” to enhance the story. Really hope you enjoy the final project! [It has been very tempting to just stop production to play our own game! Haha!]

We do not have a set date, though some dates have been projected. We had considered in the next couple months to start Kickstarter. However, we want to be considerate of the holidays, so it might be beginning of next year.

I’m a Game Master currently running a D&D campaign with some friends of mine. The way I run games is almost exactly the way you described the layout of VOID, but as you’ve mentioned, I’ve had some issues maintaining a sense of harsh realism with the restrictions and the naturally light storytelling. I prefer darker stories filled with mystery, suspense, and sometimes outright horror. In my worlds, you can die by the sword, the beast, or even the common cold. VOID sounds just like the game to assist me in my niche of storytelling. I look forward to its release so that I might run an even better game!

That is excellent, Stephen! We found that we often would play games like D&D with our own style. We decided it was time to create our own game [VOID] without the restrictions with the realism. We hope that VOID gives you the opportunity to play an awesome game straight from your own imagination, as limitless as possible!

I’m really excited. I’d also, if you are interested, like to offer my services if it might help you with releasing the game anytime sooner. I am a professional editor for an independent publishing company called Polyhedron Games, LLC. We specialize in OSRIC, mostly, but we’ve touched a few other systems as well. If you need an editor, or even simply a beta tester for the game, let me know! I’d be honored to assist on such a remarkable project!

Polyhedron Games appears to have some very cool products available that fit the same genre of VOID. We would be glad to hear what particular services you would be offering. You can e-mail us directly at void.tabletoprpg@gmail.com, so that we can discuss further. We want to provide the best gaming experience available and would be glad to speak with you. Look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you for following my blog. It lead me to here. I’m “a veteran of a thousand psychic wars” having played D&D back in the day to playing Pathfinder now. Call it midlife crisis…RPG is the only thing that is letting me “keep it real” believe it or not. I like straddling the fence between light and dark so VOID sounds interesting to me. Cheers again.

Good day VOID! I’ve got to ask the obvious question. .. Are you really into gardening, or did you magically figure out I’m an old school board D&D player? Too odd! Ironically, I have been looking to start up a game with a group, but schedules, drive times, etc have kept us apart. I have briefly checked my online options, but I want the game to be like I was sitting at a table, not playing a video game. Sounds like you have got it goin’ on. I’ll also give you a follow to see what cha all are up to at VOID. BTW, thanks for the follow! Happy gaming! ⚅⚄⚃👸

Thanks, Plant Girl! It must have magic that brought your plants and our gaming together. We definitely know the struggle of setting up a game. Rolld20.com has been a great platform to bring our own gaming group together through Google Hangout that gives that “at a table” feel. Depending on your location in the Midwest, maybe we could set something up!

It would be awesome to be able to dust off my self-hand-painted figure and plop it on a eraser pen graph pad!! HA! I did take a look at Rolld20, but only a glance to see if others were in my location, north of Chicago. Meh, not many. BUT, I would really be interested in whatcha got going on over at VOID. I have to read more of your posts to see what’s up in your beans!! =-)

One of the cool things with Roll20 is that you can play with people all over the world and do not have to be close to each other. We play with people across the USA. I am very excited that you are checking out VOID thoroughly. Let us know if you have any constructive feedback! We also accept praise!!
